The truth: The AA money-market fund pays 0.4% less interest than the normal cash fund, so you are paying 4 cents a mile (pre-tax) for those blessed miles.
Another perfect example of how companies (successfully) fool people into paying for those miles, and make them think they're getting a good deal. If anyone wants to buy miles outright, I'll sell them for considerably less than that.
