Waterhouse 10000 miles promotion

  • Did anyone receive 10000 aadvantage miles? how long it took?

  • A word of warning to anyone thinking about using Waterhouse. You might want to look at this website: http://www.sonic.net/donaldj/brokers1.html#Waterhouse. I read about it in Money Magazine. I have not personally used Waterhouse so please procede at your own risk.


  • SteveB, if you already have an account do you have to open a second one to get the second 10,000 miles? Do you know if you can just kick an extra $10K into the first account?


  • I have been a Waterhouse customer since '93. So far I'm satisfied with its service. It offers good service for its commissions and fees.

  • Dilbert...I opened two accounts and just sent in an application for a third. Thanks again for your great tip. For each account I get 10,000 AA miles and since the money will be in the AA money fund I'll get even more. Even IF that fund pays ".4% less than the normal fund" its costing me 20.00 for 10,500 miles for each account for the six months that they'll have my money. That works out to less than .002 per mile.

  • I'm thinking about sending off the money to get the 10K upfront bonus, but leaving the money in there and getting 1K miles/$10K every year is a SCAM.

    The truth: The AA money-market fund pays 0.4% less interest than the normal cash fund, so you are paying 4 cents a mile (pre-tax) for those blessed miles.

    Another perfect example of how companies (successfully) fool people into paying for those miles, and make them think they're getting a good deal. If anyone wants to buy miles outright, I'll sell them for considerably less than that.


  • Just reread the promotional material. It looks like the account has to remain open for six months but the 10,000 ititial deposit only has to be there for sixty days.


  • Mileking.....there is another string around here somewhere on this....not sure where. I seem to recall a post where someone was upset that you had to withdraw and reapply for an account in order to get the 10,000 miles.
