Great Deal!
My Miles are Saved!!
:D And for a while it was 'possible ' to get enrolled in the double miles promotion. :D
Something like 25K BMI miles in a month.
:( So sad it's finished now. :(
... I do admit that the 1000 miles per night for BMI is more convenient. However, BMI is less attractive as an airline.
I never said you need to redeem BMI miles with BMI.
Please, think about UK-US in C or F with *A : 67.5K or 90K miles.
I stayed in the Hilton Jumeriah Beach, Dubai in January and signed up for a Hilton Honors account when I was there.
I did the double dipping and chose the 10 points and 1 mile per dollar spent.
The total spend came to $3800 and I got 38000 Hilton Points. When I checked my Virgin Atlantic Account I had been credited with 7600 miles - Thats 2 per $1.
Now I'm wondering was that a mistake I should keep quiet about? Do you get more points for Virgin than other airlines? Was it a special Offer?
Any answers you be appreciated!
James
My conclusion was that the Virgin FF's must not be very excited about their program. Meanwhile, the Qantas forum is generally very active and they will give lots of hints and advice.
I'm open to hearing anyone's thoughts about gathering points at Hilton for BMI, Virgin or Qantas if anyone has compared these programs.
I double dip with Virgin for every Hilton stay, I personally think it the best deal for US based flyers.
You'll find that most serious Virgin flyers hang out at the V-Flyer web site (http://www.v-flyer.com/) so the flyertalk Virgin board is a bit slow.
If you change your double dip preference they may not be reflected in existing reservations.
I use Qantas as my airline partner at Hilton since 1,000 points seems to add up faster than the US airlines -- although I also recognize that using the points is more difficult from the US (but I look forward to using them upon returning to Australia eventually -- it's nice to have them saved up as a vacation reward to look forward to).
As an aside, with Hertz I get 750 Qantas points per rental and I don't even get charged the FF tax that you incur with each rental for US-based programs -- just a little extra incentive.
In trying to see if I'm getting the most points for my stays, a few months ago I posted a question on the Flyertalk Virgin forum asking whether it might be worthwhile switching to Virgin as my preferred partner, since Hilton also gives 1,000 points per stay (and Hertz does 1000 per rental) -- as I was thinking that Virgin points might also be easier from the US.
However, I gave up on this idea after seeing such little activity in the Virgin forum and not hearing any responses to my question, even after eventually giving myself a self-serving bump.

ssssh...don't tell everyone ;)
I use BMI at 1000 miles per night it represents the best value I know from a hotel stay, the double dip points are a bonus.
I use VS for all my Double Dip and Hertz, plus the occasional GF, SQ, and DL, CO flights......even F9!
Funny I've never flown VS on a revenue ticket.....of the three times I've flown with them in UC they are all with my Double Dip/Car/Partner miles..... :) ^
Sorry, I do not agree or only partially.
Looks like BMI ^ , Qantas  and Virgin  offer the best values.
BD
1000 miles per night (max 3000 :( ) even at the cheapest Hampton Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites and Scandic Hotels
VS
1000 miles per stay but only 200 at the cheapest Hampton Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites and Scandic Hotels
QF
1000 miles per stay and nothing at the cheapest Hampton Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites and Scandic Hotels
Also Finnair could be better than QF and VS.
500 miles per night (no max ^ ) even at the cheapest Hampton Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites and Scandic Hotels
OK, the others are worst (i.e. basic 500-N/A)
Thanks for the info. I particularly liked reading about Virgin's "Galactic" plans of flying into space with points -- now that's an interesting vacation for which to save up points. :D
Presumably by staying only one night? OK for one-nighters, but a hassle for a two night stay or longer.
I'll stick to BD for up to 3,000 miles per stay.
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 1999--Hilton Monday announced that Hilton HHonors(R), one of the world's leading guest rewardprograms, and Virgin Atlantic Airways have formed an exciting program partnership.
HHonors members will earn 1,000 miles in the Virgin Atlantic Airways' Freeway frequent flyer program with every business-rate stay at a participating Hilton hotel. These miles will be accrued in addition to HHonors points, via HHonors' unique Double Dip(R) feature, which allows members to earn both points and miles with every qualifying stay.
Hilton HHonors also will award 250 HHonors partner bonus points at check-in to Freeway members who produce a Virgin Atlantic boarding card, valid within 24 hours of check-in or check-out.
With Virgin Atlantic's Freeway participation in the HHonors Reward Exchange, members may also now convert Freeway miles into HHonors points and also may convert HHonors points into Freeway miles. HHonors Reward Exchange is a benefit exclusive to the HHonors program that offers travelers the industry's
only two-way exchange of hotel points and airline miles.
"We're delighted to welcome Virgin Atlantic Airways, one of the world's most prestigious air carriers, to the HHonors family of travel partners," said Jeffrey Diskin, president and chief operating officer of Hilton HHonors Worldwide. "This relationship will provide frequent business travelers with tremendous
opportunities for earning free travel quickly and will increase the value of the HHonors program."
Virgin Atlantic also will participate in the Hilton HHonors Meeting Planner program, whereby Freeway members may elect to earn miles for qualifying meetings held at participating Hilton properties.

As someone who hotel-hops, I earn 1000 VS miles per night as well. I do admit that the 1000 miles per night for BMI is more convenient. However, BMI is less attractive as an airline.
Besides those idiots at bmi won't let us citizens apply. :td:
Based on this thread, it looks like double dipping to earn BMI miles is one of the better deals in contrast to the typical 500 miles/stay... Several colleagues and I just joined BMI through the www.flybmi.com website (UK flag highlighted at the bottom)... we are all US citizens/ USA based addresses.
However, several folks have mentioned on this thread (as well as other threads), that US citizens can't join Diamond Club. However, we went to the website, we were able to join (even selected "United States of America" in the drop down menu)... has this info changed from July (when several posters indicated that it was not possible to join as a US citizen?) We filled out our info on the website with all our details (US mailing address, etc.) and received a DiamondClub number.
I just wanted to make sure to change to VS or another airline before it's too late and I'm not double dipping miles into a "black hole" account (if BMI never credits the miles from Hilton...)
Thanks in advance,
Also Finnair could be better than QF and VS.
