Job choices, and Happiness in Life?

January 05th, 2009 edit

  • I'm 15. And I have huge dreams. I just don't know how to go about making them come true. I would love to become, a fashion designer, a singer, a model, a high profile photographer, i want to be many things. I know they aren't realistic, but its what I want to do. Please help me to find happiness, because it seems as if everyone wants a life a realism, when I want a life of dreams.

  • Hang on to your dreams. Doing work you hate can never be called a success, and few people progress in careers they hate. I know a young lady who is an accountant. She LOVES being an accountant. People told her, that isn't really a woman's field, you won't do well. Well she has done pretty well for herself. She is doing what she likes, even though anybody else would HATE being an accountant.

Maybe you won't make it to the top in the fields you dream of being in (I worry a little that some over-hyped reality shows are fowling up your dreams,) but people do much better at work they love than work they hate, even if they aren't the "top" in their field.

    Good Luck.

  • ...learn what it takes to fulfill your dreams...
...see what abilities and interest you need to hone your skills...
    ...good luck...

  • If any of those things is unrealistic, then no one would be doing those things.

You'll never know whether any of those things are within your grasp unless you try. But even if you did try every one of those things and become good at every single one of them -- and even hugely famous or financially successful, that's no guarantee of happiness.

If you're looking for others to help you find the happiness you seek, I think you're looking in the wrong direction. No one else is more responsible for your own happiness than you.

The best jobs are those that we do well; that we enjoy doing and that we would do for free if we had to. After that, making money and personal/professional recognition is just an added benefit.

For what it's worth, I'm a singer, songwriter and audio professional. I'm not rich or famous, but I don't need to be. I'm happy.

  • Right now time is on your side. Perhaps as you have opportunity you can take electives in drama, chorus, art, anything that will help you develop your underlying talent. In some communities you can find photography classes and sometimes camera stores are a good place to contact for that information. I would be sure to have your parents involved in checking any photo, modeling, or acting classes and you must be very cautious about any extracurricular classes. It's great to dream but there are a lot of kooks out there who will take advantage of people (of any age) who lose sight of reality in the pursuit of a dream. As you mature you might find you have a particular strength in one or two of the areas in which you are interested. It would be okay as well if you discovered an entirely different talent. Also, you need to be really honest with yourself and ask, how hard am I willing to work to make this happen? Are you willing to devote your time and energy in discovering and developing your talents? If money is going to be a factor, are you willing to work as well as go to classes? It's a lot to ask you at age 15 but I hope you will think about that part of reality. Another option might be to become a really, really good author and build your characters out of your dreams. A good writer does a lot of research and takes them to places where they learn firsthand about whatever it is they are writing about. Lastly, don't let anyone tell you to stop dreaming! Reality will always be around you but dreams will always be IN you! Good luck and do your best!

  • maybe u could become a songwriter or an actor.
start out small and start growing...
first, do small scenes in movies and then start to become more famous. then u can open a clothing line with all the money u got!
