So..AC think you deserve a weekend away..HA.HA.HA.HA

January 05th, 2009 edit

  • Oh yes, you ALL deserve a break to one of these metropolitan centers of the universe...

My apologies to any poor soul that lives in any of these places, I am sure they are very lively.!!

    Canada
    $89 VICTORIA INTL (BC)
    $99 NANAIMO (BC)
    $109 PENTICTON (BC)
    $139 CASTLEGAR (BC)
    $169 CRANBROOK (BC)
    $209 WHITEHORSE (YT)

Not my idea of a deserving break...try something warmer.!

Actually...lets run a list of things you could do in the above mentioned locations for a weekend.

    I'll start.

    1. suicide
    2.watch the grass grow

  • Hey! I was in Victoria last weekend and it was fantastic - and, on behalf of all Pentictonites, (Okanaganians?), did you forget the skiing at Apex? Or wine tours?
It is great up there right now.

Of course, the sale is obviously made up by someone 3,000 miles away who doesn't have a clue. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

  • parnel: I do confess to my left-leaning tendencies, although they don't go as far as unqualified support for unions. Unionised university professors do seem to be oxymorons (scanned as you like). My comment on Mike Harris is as much personal as political. He is not someone I would like to have as my friend. In contrast, by all reports FlyerAl is a nice guy in person despite his odd political beliefs http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

  • I think they put that one on specially for Mike Harris.

Oh well you won't have Harris to kick around anymore, just slick Ernie and his first lady Isobel;flyer Al must be a nice guy because he's always "right" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

  • Academic, I concur on both counts, although I have not had the displeasure of the former.

  • Of course, one could go ogopogo(sic) hunting as well. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

  • The only place you can go to in Canada from Toronto this weekend is North Bay.

  • Monsieur Acad-emic, why must you put-down le livre “Mr. Silly”? I use it in designing mon site web destina. Come, I buy it pour votre anniversaire!

  • because

Obvious typo but we know you meant "despite".

(Okay okay, we know you meant because). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

  • Hey ...I am originally from North Bay. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Flyer al---I think he's just going to make some decent money for awhile and wait for the call to unite the federal parties on the right.
    Here's hoping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Academic---I think you and shareholder are union goons dressed up as whatever;IOW either a left leaning liberal or an even farther left leaning NDP'er.Harris did what this province needed after the two previous losers that ran the place before him.He gave it a wake up call that the pinko union leaders and teachers etc. could not organize around fast enough.Eves will continue the CSR but only after he whips the Libs again. The Torys will be in power in Ontario for some time to come,if for no other reason than the Fed libs are going to be there for some time to come thus creating the need for some diversity.
Mike harris is not mean spirited;he did what was needed to stop the slide into a full socialist empire that would have left us worse off than BC or Quebec.Leadership sometime has to be what appears to be contrary to the mainstream opinion---but he did do what he said he would, and we voted for him again. As for the meltdown,I think you're possibly right;but then again everyone has a boiling point and he has recognized his, unlike Johnny C who wants a longevity record or to just "keep fiddling while Rome burns".And, to get back on subject your libs are the reason or a good part of the reason AC is screwed up.

  • Mike Harris is a master at bridge , so does not compare to Day who lived in a bus after dropping out of College.

Don't any of you wise guys forget Ontario was bleeding $14B a year when Harris came. Do you all let your spouses or partners exceed your income by a comparable amount. I think not.

I am not totally blaming Rae who with Pink Floyd tried to spend his way out of the recession. I believe Peterson was initially responsible for his huge percent increases in spending.

  • parnel, you crack me up. Harris is a prime example of the Peter Principal, of a man so over his depth that he couldn't cope with running Ontario. He choked in his second term so majorly that he had a midlife crisis and spent most of his time running around with his woman, getting scorned big time by her, then running back to his wife, who quickly saw through him and dumped the lout once and for all. Running Ontario bored him to death after the first couple of years. Harris has as much depth as Stockwell Day, and would last as long if he ever did get to Ottawa.

As for that flight to North Bay, I kinda thought it was an invitation to Ernie and Isobel to check out the riding over the weekend. But I see he decided to stay closer to the big city.

  • From what I've read, there are no good reasons for Ernie to run in North Bay but lots of good reasons not to (and in fact he's running in Dufferin-Peel-Wellington-Grey).

    1. If he's going to be something other than "Mike Harris again", he shouldn't run in the same riding

    2. Mike Harris won his riding by a very narrow margin last time

    3. Ernie does need to pull together a government, so running closer to Toronto makes sense

Keeping up the stories that he might run in North Bay did give Mikey a good cover story for getting out quick.
